Top 10 Most Creative Uses for the Nintendo Game Boy

These ten modders / geeks take creativity to the next level by giving new life to the Nintendo Game Boy. Sure, not all of them are functional (or practical), but it's the thought that counts...right? Which ones are your favorites? Continue reading to see them all.

1.PSPBoy

Created by "MOD SOUL", this PSPBoy mockup gives us a glimpse at what might have been if Sony and Nintendo had partnered to develop a portable gaming system. I'm going to put my Sony and PSP hating aside to just mention how freaking awesome this mod is. I mean come on, a PSP, inside of an older Gameboy, how awesome is that?

2. Game Boy Meets Smartphones

What happens when you combine a Nintendo Game Boy, fake white iPhone 4, and HTC Aria into one device? The strange-looking gadget above. In other words, "starting with the HTC Aria, builder Goteking stuck the phone inside a hollowed out GameBoy case, then attached the fake iPhone4 to the back.

3. N64Boy Advance

Anyone that stood in line for hours in hopes of getting an N64 on launch day might savor at the thought of a portable version that is no larger than a Game Boy Advance For non-gamers, Hailrazer's N64Boy Advance is an awesome custom console nonetheless.

4. Game Boy Music

You might be thinking, not another song made with random sound bits from video games, but Game Boy Music is not what you think. It consists of sounds made by tapping the Game Boy itself.

5. NintendOscope

Here's something you don't see everyday: a Nintendo Game Boy that's been hacked to play games on an oscilloscope. To be more specific, "a PM3065, a 100MHz dual channel cathode ray scope and apparently a collaboration between Fluke and Phillips."

6. Game Boy Arcade Cabinet

Plenty of arcade cabinets can still be picked up on the cheap, but how many can turn your Nintendo Game Boy into a desk entertainment center? Well, there's 10 currently. They were created "by removing and angling the handheld's controls, and swapping out the 4-way directional pad with an actual joystick."

7. Steampunk Game Boy

Nintendo's Game Boy isn't exactly synonymous with Victorian-era England, but this custom Steampunk creation wants to change that. It features a "Pro Sound Mod audio output, so you can hear the appropriately cheesy soundtrack that came with most games back in the early '90s."

8. iPhone Advance

With this clever guise, friends and family alike will be none the wiser when you pull out your iPhone, as it's concealed in a Game Boy Advance case. Unfortunately, only one button on the console is functional, and that's the "B" (home button).

9. Game Boy Costume

So it's not exactly a giant Game Boy turned costume, but rather a fan-made creation that consists of a laptop running an emulator, with the controls mapped to giant buttons.

10. Tongue-Controlled GameBoy Advance SP

That's right, Simmunity has created the world's first tongue-controlled GameBoy Advance SP. This modified console is compatible with most titles, but "games which require multiple simultaneous button closures will require an assistant to help push extra buttons during play." Here's how it works: "...we added a new jack for the receiver input. This receiver processes signals from the tongue-touch keypad and, in this case, relays them to a second micro-controller computer chip inside the Game Boy, added by Simmunity, to decode the receiver signals and activate the Game Boy Advance SP buttons."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Details; Infinity Ward Done with Series?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 8, 2011 and we at pnosker.com, courtesy of Kotaku, have learned the first details of the biggest game of 2011 and they’re coming after the jump along with some speculation on the future of Infinity Ward's relationship with the acclaimed series.

The game is expanding outside the United States and in addition to having battles in New York City and our country; Paris and London presumably amongst others of the world’s largest cities will be host to some of the biggest battles in video game history.

The story, while largely unknown at this point, will be vast and apparently tie up all the loose ends from previous Call of Duty games leaving me to wonder if this will be the last one in a potential trilogy. Infinity Ward is hurting from losses sustained over recent months and is receiving help from other companies such as Raven to make this game come to fruition. It’s unknown whether the series will be able to carry on under their, not Treyarch’s, guidance.

As for the actual game, you will be transported to different and varying locales as you take on anonymous roles such as gunner, a Russian Federal Service agent and many more unknown to us.

The first mission of the game is going to channel an East Coast version of Red Dawn as the Russians invade New York City and Manhattan to take over our country. The game’s final mission, and probably strangest location of all, will take place in Dubai. No word on whether you’ll fight on the floating tennis court or terraformed land. But there will be 15 missions in all.

Two Delta Force operatives not named Chuck Norris named “Frost” and “Sandman” are the characters with new stories that, if the series goes on, would potentially be the new main characters. That’s just assuming of course. Keep in mind that Infinity Ward is in shambles and there’s speculation that they might not be able to handle the series going forward without major retooling.

There will also be new maps for multiplayer obviously and two new Spec Ops modes known as “Mission” and “Survival.”

Mind you this game will not be made by Treyarch like last year’s disappointing Call of Duty: Black Ops so you SHOULD go out and buy this one when it comes out later this year.

Sonic Generations Demo Greenlit For, At Least, Australia

A leak from Australia’s Classification Board hints that Sega will release a downloadable demo for Sonic Generations. The rating board inspected Sonic Generations (Demo) anddeemed it acceptable for all-ages.

Can’t say we’re shocked since Sega released downloadable demos for Sonic the Hedgehog(the 2006 game with Silver) and Sonic Unleashed. But, why would the Classification Board rate it now? Seems a bit early unless Sega is going to surprise Sonic fans by releasing the E3 demo on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live during the show. That’s just a guess, though, Sega has not confirmed or announced a demo for Sonic Generations.

Sonic Generations is scheduled for release this holiday season on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Portal 2’ and ‘Mortal Kombat’ top new video game releases

By Omar L. Gallaga

New video game releases this week:
“Portal 2.” — “This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: huge success.” The first lyrics to Jonathan Coulton’s closing credits song for Valve’s brilliant 2007 game “Portal” (voiced by the robot GLaDOS) still give gamers chills. The game was a clever, perfectly executed series of physics puzzles combined with humorously dark writing. In the much-anticipated sequel, Aperture Science’s GLaDOS is back and she’s brought co-op multiplayer modes, bigger test labs and new characters. In a unique bonus, the PlayStation 3 edition includes free codes to download the PC and Mac versions and the game can be played online cooperatively within those versions. Rated E-10+ for Everyone 10 and Older. $50-$60, for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC/Mac (sold together).
“Mortal Kombat.” — There may have been one (or three) too many “Mortal Kombat” games over the years, but the original developers of the long-running series are hoping this reboot, with an emphasis on bone-crunching 2-D fighting, more realistically violent blood and gore, and deeper storylines. Will it be enough to win back old-school “Kombat” fans? Rated M for Mature. $60-$100 for Standard and Collector’s Editions, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Also out this week: “SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals” (PS3), “Gem Quest: 4 Elements” (Nintendo DS), “Prince of Persia Trilogy HD” (PS3), “Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska” (Nintendo Wii, PC), “Conduit 2” (Wii), “Hidden Mysteries: Notre Dame” (PC), “Picture Puzzle Collection” (DS), “Triple Pack: LIMBO, Trials HD and ‘Splosion Man” (Xbox 360), “Super Sonic Racer” (Wii), “Seek & Find Adventures 2” (PC), “Chronicles of Mystery: The Legend of the Sacred Treasure” (PC), “Hyper Fighting” (Wii), “Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection” (Sony PSP), “Majesty 2 Collection” (PC), “Section 8: Prejudice” (downloadable for Xbox 360), “Mad Blocker Alpha: Revenge of the Fluzzles” (downloadable for PSP and PS3), “Arcana Heart 3” (downloadable for PS3), “Red Johnson’s Chronicles” (downloadable for PS3), “Puzzle Agent” (downloadable for PS3).

Game Of Thrones Review

Game Of Thrones Review - We must first say that the excitement is for good reason. Based on the best selling George RR Martin, and beloved novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, the books have sold over seven million copies worldwide, won countless awards and hit the top of the list of the New York Times bestsellers, so no surprise that HBO saw the potential in it. But there is a possible drawback - the fantasy genre has not done traditionally and tellybox. A Game of Thrones is doing better?

From the first couple of episodes, I recognize that just might. With a narrative that jumps right into the action, we are introduced to the seven kingdoms of the west, and things - both human and supernatural - that threaten their peace. In the far north, beyond the wall that protects the kingdoms, walkers Wight - reanimated corpses - old fairy tales are moving. Meanwhile, King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) travel to Winterfell to ask your trusted friend Eddard Stark (Sean Bean) to rule at his side, while in the south, the last remaining heir of the previous dynasty, Viserys Targaryen , Daenerys sells her sister bought an army and regain his crown.

With so many characters, plots, places and background to present concerns to the Game of Thrones was always that the series would be confusing. However, the filmmakers have found the perfect balance, introducing the world of the west at a leisurely pace, while the continuous movement throughout history. The show's production values are the key, not only because it looks so good (and it looks amazing), but because every kingdom is given its own distinct visual identity, the wall is sad and miserable, Winterfell is dark and sad, King's Landing is lush and green, while Pentos in the south is exotic and vibrant. The series' complex mythology is woven into everything from characters dressed in their accents, all of which have been carefully designed to tell us more about our heroes and villains that any long monologue ever could.

That said, the concept of heroes and villains is not really relevant here. Regardless of your environment, Game of Thrones is ultimately a story of humanity. The story is based on the actors' ambition, greed and lust, giving Game of Thrones realism that helps you rise above the usual costume historical dramas. Each character has a dark side and the cross, intentions or alliances are clear giving a nice background unpredictable quality. It is clear from the outset that each of the large cast of characters has a journey to pursue, but if they come to the end of the season is unknown.
