MICHAEL VICK SPITS UP BLOOD, GETS CONCUSSED, POSSIBLY OUT FOR THE SEASON

Michael Vick was spitting up blood and walking off the field the last time fantasy football owners saw him. And that's not good.

The Eagles electrifying quarterback, and very high draft pick in fantasy football leagues injured his neck in yesterday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons on a weird play where he was whipped around and knocked helmets with his own offensive lineman. Ont he play Vick bit his tongue and had to be helped off the field as he was seen spitting blood onto the turf.

Apparently the blood is only from his tongue and not from anything more serious. But he also suffered a concussion on the play, leaving his availability for next week's game against the New York Giants up in the air.

What's so ironic about this injury is that it didn't happen on one of Vick's trademark scrambles or one of his superhuman athletic moves. Instead of getting hit by a charging linebacker, he gets his by his own teammate.

And this is what we all knew would happen to Vick. He's a small guy who throws his body around more than any other NFL quarterback (or NFL running back for that matter) who's playing behind a questionable offensive line. This was bound to happen. And yet, fantasy football sites (except ours) had him ranked as either the first or second quarterback overall behind Aaron Rodgers. We had him ranked sixth for this very reason. If we're going to have to spend a late first or second round pick ona  guy, we'd rather go with the one that has a better chance of staying on the field and playing all 16 games, than the one who's missed games in nearly every season of his career (and that's not counting the ones he missed for dog fighting.)

Everyone knew Vick was going to get injured at some point this season. It was just a matter of when and for how long. More information will be available later today, but we've seen how concussions have affected players lok Austin Collie, Ben Roethlisberger, the NHL's Sidney Crosby, MLB's Justin Morneau and countless other athletes in recent years.

If we've learned anything from the scariness of concussions, it's that Vick could be out for the rest of the season. Hes almost assuredly out for their home opener, but time will tell how much longer he's out.

For all you fantasy players out there who owned Vick, you may want to scour the waiver wire this week for a replacement. It could be a very long season for you.

Kenny Stills Remembers Austin Box After Game-winning Touchdown

Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Kenny Stills made a pair of -- and I don't say this lightly -- unbelievable catches to help his team beat the Florida St. Seminoles. One of those catches came in the fourth quarter, minutes after FSU had forced a late tie, and would prove to be the score that gave OU the victory.

But for plenty of Sooners fans, Stills' most memorable moment from Saturday night will be his touchdown celebration, when he held up a one and a two with his fingers in remembrance of fallen teammate Austin Box, who passed away over the summer and wore jersey No. 12.

Hawaiian Humane Society granted full custody of seized dogs

A judge has ruled more than 150 dogs and nearly 80 puppies currently in foster care should be forfeited to the Hawaiian Humane Society by owners of the breeding facility they were rescued from.

The accused puppy mill owners have the chance to post a bond by Thursday morning which would retain their rights as owners through the end of a separate criminal case. Their attorney says that bond could reach the millions of dollars.

The Hawaiian Humane Society petitioned for forfeiture of all of the living dogs rescued in February from Bradley International's breeding site in Waimanalo. They also asked for custody of 79 puppies subsequently born to the already pregnant mothers.

"There is probable cause to conclude that each and every one of the dogs impounded in feb was in fact subjected to violation(s)," said Judge Glenn Kim. "The puppies necessarily follow their mothers."

The ruling elicited cheers and tears in the courtroom where Humane Society workers, volunteers and foster families looked on.

"She's really gotten a lot better and she's just a love. I am so very happy that I get to keep her," said foster caregiver Julia Ward.

"Both the dog mother and the puppies are not having to go back to a horrible breeding situation," said foster caregiver Sheree Revilla.

But the facility owner still has a chance to retain ownership if they post a sizeable bond at a Thursday morning hearing.

"We're ecstatic, and we really hope at this point bradley international understands and heard what the judge said and we ask that they do not post a bond for their care and let us finally find homes for these animals," said Keoni Vaughn of the Hawaiian Humane Society.

The bond would have to cover the cost of care from the beginning of the seizure through the eventual end of a still pending criminal case

"The bond amount keeps going up the longer the trial is postponed, the bond amount could be in the millions of dollars by the time the case actually goes to trial," said Bradley International attorney Jason Burks.

The forfeiture related to Bradley International as a corporation. The defense attorney says individual owners could try to sue to intervene.

"Our concern is that we can free these animals from a life of prison," Vaughn says. "I hope this sends a message to all large-scale breeding operations where profit is more important than the animal's welfare."

Foster caregivers have the opportunity for permanent adoption pending the outcome of the bond hearing.

To make matters worse, international relief efforts were rebuffed by the country’s military junta immediately after the storm hit Myanmar. That left many survivors of the storm without necessary supplies.


3. 2008 Sichuan earthquake

In less than 2 minutes the 7.9 magnitude Sichuan earthquake affected 45.5 million people in China, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). In this earthquake’s aftermath, 15 million people were evacuated from their homes, more than 5 million were left homeless and over 84,000 were killed. In fact, the number of deaths from this terrifying temblor could be higher, as 18,000 people remain missing to this day.

Following the earthquake, survivors slept on the streets either out of necessity or for fear that standing structures were unstable. Haiti is still in recovery in the aftermath of this quake.

There are also a DVD navigation system, a six-CD changer, a chrome wind deflector, Sirius satellite radio, and a voice dialing via integrated Bluetooth.

The new Continental GT, which will have its public debut at the Paris auto show and which goes on sale early next year, hews closely to the design of the previous car. Dirk van Braekel, Bentley’scurrent design chief, did the original Continental GT; Raul Pires, Bentley’s head of exterior design, shaped the new car. Although it looks like a virtual copy, every body panel is new. Many of the familiar lines and creases have been sharpened for greater definition. The window opening is shallower and longer, as the beltline is slightly higher. The car is wider, with rear fenders that are set further out from the body, but overall height and length are the same.

Inside, the design changes again are evolutionary. The dash features a large touch screen, and the console adds cupholders. Switching from seat-mounted belts to traditional belts (with automated presenters) allowed for slimmer front seatbacks, increasing rear legroom by nearly two inches, but it’s still a tight fit for adults.

Increased output
Mechanically, there are no major hardware changes-at least not at launch. The Continental GT is again powered by a 6.0-liter W-12 engine driving all four wheels. The engine’s output increases from552 to 567 hp, with torque bumped up from 479 to 516 pound-feet, parsed out by a six-speed automatic transmission. Bentley claims the new Continental GT will get from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds (down from 4.6  seconds), while top speed remains 198 mph.

'Sons Of Anarchy Seasons' 4 Premiere Review

SAMCRO is out of jail, but the world around them has changed – and not for the better. Join us as we review and discuss the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 4 premiere, ‘Out.’

With masterful handling by series creator Kurt Sutter, FX’s hit drama Sons of Anarchy begins its fourth season brilliantly by not only presenting an intriguing, precise direction of focus for its familiar characters, but also overcoming many of television’s contrivances that have served as the downfall of far lesser series.

As the Sons of Anarchy season 4 premiere beings, we jump fourteen months ahead from what transpired in the wonderfully chaotic season 3 finale. The once-incarcerated majority of SAMCRO are released from prison and they journey back to their familiar surroundings of Charming – although, as it soon becomes apparent, familiarity is something that has been all but lost to those returning to the “free” world.

The often-used saying of “duck out of water” couldn’t apply more than it does to what’s presented in this Sons of Anarchy season 4 premiere. The one-time controller of all things Charming, Clay (and through him, SAMCRO), are thrust into a proverbial new world, with new rules and new players – some of whom may be even more dangerous than ones previously seen in past season.

This brilliant story arc, combined with the masterful handling of television’s often misused time jump, establishes a wonderfully poignant foundation to unseat the series’ dedicated fans by presenting a familiar, yet somehow still unfamiliar setting that the characters must not only come to terms with, but also attempt to overcome.

The sentiment that SAMCRO can and will do what they like is still present, but the notion that everything will work out for them in the end has vanished. With the familiar Police Chief Wayne Unser now living surviving in a trailer with a single marijuana plant to keep him company while cancer slowly eats away at him, SAMCRO’s last remaining connection to the presumed “law” of Charming has vanished. In his place now sits one of San Joaquin’s finest officers, Sherriff Eli Roosevelt – a man with enough morals and tenacity to not only be seen as a threat to SAMCRO, but one that doesn’t even show a hint of fear from what repercussions may follow his ever-brazen actions.

If that’s not enough, Jacob Hale has also become the new mayor of Charming, and has continued with his plans to build new developments within the city. Of course, the most apparent (and capable) antagonist to everyone’s favorite motorcycle gang is the mild-mannered, though brilliantly-minded Assistant United States Attorney Lincoln Potter. Potter, for all intents and purposes, will come to be the master of all these newly presented domains – though it’s going to take some time before we see exactly how that’s going to happen.

Echoing elements from the favorite Sons of Anarchy season 2, the masterfully planned SAMCRO is once again up against enemies who are not only their intellectual equals, but who are also able to unfurl their plans without Clay, Jax or the rest of the motorcycle club catching wind of it.

Often when a television series reaches a certain age, elements that once intently drew audiences to it in the first place are replaced by the notion that the producers simply want to revel in its presumed awesomeness, catering to the familiarity of its fan base and lackadaisically allowing its characters to proverbially sit and rot without any type of logically progressing character arcs or story development.

With the Sons of Anarchy season 4 premiere, not only has Kurt Sutter brilliantly transitioned the series into a new season of episodes, but he has done so with such calculated grace that it quickly becomes apparent that many producers of other television series – television series that receive much higher ratings than Sons of Anarchy – are simply not doing their job as well as Sutter. In a world where the landscape of television is shifting to honor the creative and shun the generic, Sutter has undoubtedly made it clear into which category he falls (as if there was ever a question).

While familiar scenes of SAMCRO gunning down rival gangs and out-smarting the local law enforcement are still present in the season 4 premiere, everyone watching knows that such familiarity will soon come to an end. With a team of calculated masterminds behind the impending “take down” of SAMCRO making their plans more and more clear, it won’t be long before SAMCRO, like the town of Charming (or the series itself), will need to either evolve or cease to exist.
